For me it’s the big one - the prospect of positive behaviour change at scale is on the horizon for 2012. Why now? Seeing examples of independent and original thinking in young people makes me very optimistic. It’s so satisfying that faced with the volume and conventionality of most media output and the manufactured content that saturates their world, there are large numbers who go their own way and make their own choices about what is worthwhile, enriching and truly exciting. The underground networks of teenage discovery and creativity are not just alive, they’re thriving!

I’m inspired that people are working together to share resources and have some fun at the same time. From local abundance groups to freecycle networks to “swishing” parties to swap unwanted clothes, there are examples everywhere.

2012 is the international year of Co-operatives. It cheers me up to know that there are now three times more members of co-operatives than individual shareholders worldwide.
